Tomsk Region is considered to be one of the major "growing points" of innovation economy in Russia. In 2005 the Special Economic Zone of Technical Innovations was established here. It's the only zone of this type in Russia outside of Moscow and Saint Petersburg. Currently 30% of Tomsk Region GRP is represented by science intensive production.
